NUGGET
Bifunctional Nanostructures Composed of Fluorescent Core and Metal Shell Subdomains with Controllable Geometry
The Park group, Department of Chemistry, University of Pennsylvania

Goal
To generate multifunctional nanoparticles with controllable structural parameters for their bioanalytical applications
Main Achievements
Synthesized composite nanoparticles of fluorescent core and gold shell that retain the light emitting properties of core particles and the useful surface properties of gold (left).
Demonstrated the use of the multifunctional nanoparticles in a proof-of-concept DNA detection application (right).
